ABOUT LIVERPOOL BRASS BAND
Liverpool Brass Band is based in Aigburth, Liverpool. Previously known as the Formby Band, the band has been a fixture of Merseyside’s cultural scene since 1974.
Under the baton of our Musical Director,
Louise Hough MBE, we compete in the third section in the North West Area and perform regularly locally, domestically and internationally.
We play concerts throughout the year and are also available to hire for weddings and other special occasions, corporate events and civic engagements. Click here for more information on booking the band.
the formby band
Liverpool Brass Band, from 1974 to 2022, was known as the Formby Band.
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in March 2020 the band was unfortunately unable to meet for almost 18 months. During this time, there became an opportunity for the band’s committee and it’s members, to reflect on the band’s past identity, and make important decisions for the future, to further progress in taking the band forward.
By 2020, the band had rehearsed in South Liverpool for almost a decade and all but two members were now based in the city itself.
So while the band had enjoyed many successful years under the Formby name, it was felt the Liverpool moniker was more representative of our modern iteration.
We are very proud of our heritage and are grateful to the town of Formby for its long association with the band. We have also built a strong contesting reputation under this name and so will continue to compete locally and nationally as
Liverpool Brass Band (Formby).
